They Trained Differently

They Trained Differently - DDUKA

Right after her warmup...

I was talking to one of my students.

Her vocabulary level is far beyond how most people speak.

Made me want to read the dictionary prior to our sessions.

But I have to be myself and slowly I will grow.

Once she understood my method and got comfortable with me, she asked questions.

Questions that made me think…

“Wow!”

“That’s weird.”

“Before, during and after, I've never had anyone ask me those questions.”

“She’s thoughtful. I guess she’s always curious.”

I forget the question.

However, I know my answer and I know her response.

In my mind it’s very crystal clear and obvious, yet...

I tend to forget that the farther up the ladder you go…

(going up could be knowledge, experience or trial and error like myself)

...you learned and realized how to solve a problem for them.

Identify the gap so we can bridge it together.

To give you some content, my mentor really helped me put all those elements and ideas, in my head, back together.

“System Thinking” =  INPUT ==>>> PROCESS ==>>> OUTPUT

Meaning...

(OUTPUT)

Professional athletes and everyone who made the Olympics are extremely fit. Making progress and getting results is the main thing.

(PROCESS)

Each individual has the same tools, gyms, tracks, pools, fields and equipment.

(INPUT)

But, if you were to analyse how a…

Swim team.

Basketball team.

Hockey team.

Fencing team.

Soccer team.

Track team.

Figure skating team.

Tennis team.

Table tennis team.

Biking team.

Rugby team.

Baseball team etc...

Would use the gym, field and equipment...

How they would manage their schedule and time....

What expectations would the players and coaches talk about…

What daily discipline, food and sleep is necessary for their vision and mindset...

...would be drastically different.

It’s simple.

The gym, bike, field or equipment does not create output.

All you have to do is adapt to a different environment (process).

Powerful inputs generate powerful outputs.

The process/product is a tool to achieve an outcome/output.

You can have a breathtaking OUTPUT if you’re in excellent shape from the neck up and focus on the INPUT.

My answer was:

“See the bike? See those dumbbells? See that mat? See the treadmill you are on? Depending on a sport, everyone would have a unique way to implement an exercise or a program. Olympics and professional athletes bodies all have different needs. They’re insanely fit but trained differently.”

She responded:

“Interesting. I never thought about it that way.”

I can’t tell you what she got from that conversation.

I honestly don’t know what she did in the other 23 hours away from me.

All I know is...

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.

She got momentum.

When she got momentum, great things started to happen.
