What Phase Are You In?
You presume it’s over.
Mentally, emotionally and biologically...
...you failed.
The exact moment you’re in...
...is harsh.
To drive this point home, I’m aware of how it feels.
Speaking truthfully, when my hockey career ended, I thought I was going to get waived (let go) 2 months before the season ended. I didn’t score a goal, use my assets, and wasn’t playing well. The fans, city, teammates, coaches and trainers were amazing. I didn’t have the talent, skills or stats to prolong my career.
Yet…
...it rebirthed my coaching/training journey.
To put my thoughts into words, I believe every season or term is formed by 3 phases...
Beginning.
Process.
Rebirth.
The rebirth becomes a “new beginning” and continues the journey you encounter.
Beginning.
The hardest part is to get going.
Day one.
The first hour.
Signing a contract.
Walking into a foreign country.
You can see your vision on the horizon.
Butterflies in your stomach means you’re excited and nervous.
Having that energy can occasionally be daunting.
Nevertheless, you must commit.
Process.
Once you get going, it’s hard to build momentum that’s alien to you.
Here’s the cool thing.
This serves as an excellent teaching moment for a coach, trainer or mentor to advise you. He or she will make sure you’re on the right path and give you accountability.
Everyone is going to have ebbs and flows.
Ups and downs.
At times, you imagined you wasted an hour or four years of your life.
Once you have a solid foundation and set deadlines, the momentum principle escalates.
Rebirth.
Now, is your new beginning.
Everything you did (process) led you here.
Don’t waste it.
Squeeze more juice out of the fruit.
When opportunity knocks on your door...
...most likely you’re never going to be ready and if you’re ready...
...most likely it won’t let itself in.
One of my doctors unlocks my mind by sharing worldly wisdom.
Recently, she gave me a handout to complete before our next session.
I read this sentence. It’s simple and blows my mind:
“Everything and every person is connected in some way.”
Yes...
Spring.
Summer.
Autumn.
...winter are the “seasons” your eyes see and skin feels.
Summer is where humans have fun.
Winter is when everyone hibernates and the year is over.
But, when the snow is falling...
...skiing and snowboarding participants come out to play.
One thing I’ve learned through my experience is...
Perspective.
It’s simple -- but powerful.
Direct that new energy and focus it on the positives of failures.
I made mistakes but I workout with the best of the best.
I’m behind the curve but I consumed and implemented profound knowledge from my mentors, books, courses and sessions.
By using my understanding and comprehension, I pivot.
It was a straightforward roadmap to become a coach/trainer.
Your last exam...
...could be the rebirth of your astonishing career.
Crossing the marathon finish line...
...could be the rebirth of having additional confidence in your presentations.
The end of the conversation with a prospect...
...could be the rebirth of your top-rank portfolio.
Completing your biking workout...
...could be the rebirth of you waking up in the morning, feeling ready to attack the day and having more compliments.
You wonder if it’s going to be worth it.
You wonder if you’re going to feel different inside.
You wonder if your behavior is going to change (for the better).
It will.
I’m not pouring concrete on the idea.
You want to undo the knots because it’s an iterative process and we both learn from it.
Just like nature, four seasons, sun rises and sets, the pattern of tides...
...your body has a rhythm and various cycles.
To have a phenomenal outcome of your life, listen to it.
It could be the start.
(beginning)
It could be step by step.
(process)
Or...
It could be your new beginning.
(rebirth)
